Two of York’s big draws are York Minster and The Shambles. York Minster was the focus of last week’s post, but I’m not sure that I have enough worthwhile images of The Shambles’ narrow streets and snickelways (super-narrow alleys and passages) to warrant an entire post. But here’s a few, just to convey a taste of the area:
There is fun Christmas market that sets up in The Shambles, too, but there are festive storefronts all over town:
This next storefront was one of my favorites. It looks decidely upscale:
For whatever reason, I love carousels. They are bright and colorful and festive andโperhaps most importantlyโdon’t spin fast enough to make me nauseous. (I didn’t ride this one, but probably should have.) Carousels make great photographic subjects, and I loved the way all the lights were reflecting off the wet pavers in this blue-hour image:
Thank you for letting me share my images with you, and I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas!

You sure got some nice photos!
Thank you, David! I wish that I had been in York for another day or twoโฆit seems like my catalog is pretty paltry for as neat a place as it is. But I suppose it is always that wayโnever enough time.
An excellent collection of photographs and all beautifully balanced and conveying a wonderful sense of history. Big bravo to you Jim!
Thank you, Charlie! York is a great place to explore. Good food, too.
The first image sums up much that is welcoming about York.
Damp pavements work well, too!
Hope you have a Happy Christmas.
Don’t spend too much of it putting together your blog!
Thank you, Rob! I hope you and Shirley have a Merry Christmas as well!
